Fulham has reportedly initiated discussions with former Real Madrid coach Álvaro Arbeloa as they seek a successor to Marco Silva.
The Portuguese manager's departure from Craven Cottage after five years, to take the helm at Benfica, has created a vacancy that the London club is now looking to fill, with The Athletic linking the Spaniard to the role.
Arbeloa's six-month stint at Real Madrid concluded last Tuesday, paving the way for José Mourinho's return to the Santiago Bernabéu. The 43-year-old Spanish coach had taken charge on January 12th, following Xabi Alonso's dismissal, having previously managed the club's reserve team.
During his tenure at Real Madrid, Arbeloa saw the team eliminated from the Copa del Rey by second-tier Albacete and from the UEFA Champions League in the quarter-finals by Bayern Munich, with an aggregate score of 6-4. The team finished the league season in second place, eight points behind champions Barcelona.
Marco Silva, who arrived at Fulham in 2021, leaves behind a successful legacy, having secured the Championship title in his inaugural season. In subsequent years, he solidified the team's position in the Premier League, achieving finishes of 10th, 13th, and twice 11th. In 2025, he set a new club record for Premier League points with 54.
As a player, Arbeloa, a right-back, won two European Cups with Real Madrid. He also earned 56 caps for Spain, being part of the squad that won the World Cup and two European Championships between 2008 and 2012. His career also included spells at Liverpool, West Ham, and Deportivo La Coruña.
