It was smooth sailing for the 24-year-old Pole, making her Wimbledon debut. She held her first match point at 6-2, 5-3. However, things quickly took a turn for the worse. Chwalinska slipped on a routine shot, twisting her ankle, which resulted in a nasty injury. She required medical attention, but the treatment only delayed the inevitable. Despite her efforts, she ultimately lost the second set 7-5.

Chwalinska, who had just lost the Roland Garros final to Mirra Andreeva earlier this month, was not about to give up her newfound status easily. She fought hard in the third set, even though her ankle injury was clearly hampering her. She strategically let go of difficult points to protect her ankle. Thai qualifier Mananchaya Sawangkaew didn't get an easy win and had to work for it, but she made no mistakes.
Chwalinska's Inglorious Wimbledon Exit
Sawangkaew, who had already defeated Dutch player Anouk Koevermans in the first round of qualifiers, made no errors and clinched the third set and the match: 2-6, 7-5, 6-2. In the next round, she will face either Alycia Parks or British wildcard Alicia Dudeney, who play each other in the first round. Chwalinska heads home with an ankle injury and the consolation prize of 92,000 euros in prize money, awarded to every player in the first round.
