Top Tennis Player Anastasia Potapova (Tallon Griekspoor's Girlfriend) Stuns US Open Finalist

Anastasia Potapova has caused a sensation at the US Open. Tallon Griekspoor's tennis-playing girlfriend defeated last year's finalist, Amanda Anisimova, in New York. The 25-year-old Potapova equaled her best-ever Grand Slam performance by reaching the fourth round.

Potapova, seeded 24th in New York, is no longer an unknown quantity. She's in fine form and continued that momentum against Anisimova. The American, seeded tenth at the US Open, lost last year's final to Aryna Sabalenka. For Potapova, who is in a relationship with Dutch top tennis player Griekspoor, this achievement equals her best-ever Grand Slam performance. She also reached the fourth round at Roland Garros in 2024 and this year.

Thrilling Second Set

Against Anisimova, who is coached by Dutchman Rick Vleeshouwers, Potapova started sharply. She won the first set 6-2. In the second set, she faced significantly more resistance from her opponent and even fell behind 4-3. However, she fought her way back into the match, breaking the American to take a 5-4 lead. She had the chance to close it out but then dropped her own serve. Anisimova then did the same, allowing Potapova to ultimately win 7-5 and advance to the fourth round.

Substantial Prize Money

In the next round, she will face the winner of the match between Mirra Andreeva (seeded fifth at the US Open) and Nikola Bartunkova. Potapova's (25) best US Open result until now was reaching the third round in 2024. By making it to the round of 16, she improves upon her performance from two years ago. The upset against Anisimova also earns the tennis player with Russian roots a substantial amount of prize money. She will receive over 410,000 euros from the organization, even if she is eliminated in the next match.
