Its another Thursday, which means its time for a throwback.
We are throwing it all the way back to 1846 when the foundation for the first church in Nigeria was placed.
According to NigerianFacts, this country's first church is the Cathedral Church of St. Peter, Ake.
It is located in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun state.
Reportedly, it was completed in 1898, but the foundation was laid by Reverend Andrew Desalu Wilhelm in 1846.
The church was a rallying point for Christian missionaries in Abeokuta. Little wonder, Rev. Henry Townsend, one of the earliest Christian missionaries and the founder of the first newspaper in Nigeria, the Iwe Irohin, has a hall named after him within the church's premises.
Surprisingly, the original structure is intact and still being preserved.
However, a newer and bigger auditorium has been built for current worship sessions.
Fun fact: It has been honoured by the T.I.N NIGERIA SUPER RECORDS (N.S.R).
