Veteran coach Jorge Jesus is the leading candidate to take over as manager of the Portuguese national team. The 71-year-old specialist, who a few months ago guided Al-Nassr and Cristiano Ronaldo to the Saudi Arabian championship title, is set to succeed Roberto Martinez. Martinez announced his departure last night after Portugal's exit from the World Cup.

According to ESPN, the Portuguese Football Federation is keen to finalize Jesus's appointment as soon as possible, with sources suggesting it could happen by the end of this week. A Bola adds that upon his return from the USA, Pedro Proença, president of the local federation, will meet with Jesus to discuss all contract terms. Portuguese media speculate that his contract will run until the end of the 2030 World Cup.

Jesus was also linked with the Brazilian national team before Carlo Ancelotti's appointment. After winning the title with Al-Nassr, he admitted that he accepted the offer to come to Saudi Arabia solely to help Cristiano Ronaldo secure the championship.
