The Super Falcons won the tournament only to return to Nigeria and kick off a 10-day long protest for their salaries and bonuses.

Speaking on the issue, NFF president Pinnick claimed that the federation was not at fault, shifting the blame to the Sports Ministry and the Federal Government.

The NFF have come under serious criticism following the drama but Pinnick insists that federation has not been properly funded.

“For AWCON 2016, only N18m was approved, one Super Eagles match cost us about N200 Million!,” the NFF president said on

"Issues of funding have always been there, 12 years ago, same Falcons sat in their hotel in South Africa for one week protesting non-payment of entitlements. It did not start today.”

Pinnick also said that allegations and aspersions against the NFF have hurt their relationship with corporate Nigeria.

“Distractions of court cases have also worked against our aggressive and robust marketing drive,” the Delta State born football administrator said.

“We are working on a new strategy for funding of National teams, by private sector, we need peace and tranquillity to make this work," Vice President of the NFF, Shehu Dikko who was also on the program said.

“Which past NFF Pres. has gone on to become a multi-millionaire? If there is money in NFF and so much to steal, they would have been,”

The Super Falcons have already been paid; the team media officer Remi Sulola told Pulse Sports on Monday, December 19 that the players have received payment alerts.
