Odion Ighalo, Mikel Obi, Victor Moses and Kelechi Iheanacho

Following that win, the Super Eagles are close to becoming the first African country to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. With a perfect nine points in just three games in Group B, Nigeria could become the first African team to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup if they beat Cameroon in Monday’s return leg in Yaounde and Zambia fail to beat Algeria at the Stade Mustapha Tchaker in Blida on Tuesday.

However, Gernot Rohr

Rohr insists he will stick to the tactics that got the Super Eagles the 4-0 win over Cameroon. The tactics against Cameroon, the Super Eagles were a mix of everything from attacking football to playing on the backfoot and trying to hurt their opponent with a counter attack.

Following a nervous first 20 minutes in Uyo, the Super Eagles of Nigeria took control of the game, trying to get the ball as fast as possible to Odion Ighalo who was a menace to the Cameroon defence. The plan was just to get the ball to him, either through the wings or through the middle. It was from the middle that Mikel Obi threaded a ball to Ighalo for the first goal.

After getting a 2-0 lead, the Super Eagles in the second half allowed the Cameroonians to have the ball, defending deep and hitting them on the counter attack. It was through a counter attack that Victor Moses scored Nigeria’s third, running with the ball from midfield then exchanging a pass with a teammate before finishing in the bottom corner.

After the third goal, the Super Eagles had all the ball, passing the ball to each other to the cheer of the Uyo crowd before they added a fourth. That’s what Rohr says he will do.

“They did a very good job in the game in Uyo, now we want to keep the same spirit and attitude,” Rohr said.
