Oliseh was Super Eagles coach for just less than a year before he abruptly resigned in February 2016 citing contract violations on the part of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), unpaid wages and benefits to players and assistant coaches.

“Deciding to resign from the coaching job of the Super Eagles is the most difficult decision I ever took in my whole life. It took me a whole month to decide it,” the 42-year-old said at a coaching clinic in Kenya.

“Most of the time I was leaving in Belgium so I was not reachable to give comments but it got to a time I had to think of my two kids and the 21 years of marriage I have had with my wife and decided to pass the button to another person.”

In his last public appearance as Super Eagles coach, Oliseh revealed that he clashed with his wife because he was using his personal money to carry out his job in the national team.

“I have spent so much to visit players and my wife and children are angry,” Oliseh said while speaking at a session at the 2016 Social Media Week Lagos.

Oliseh was appointed as coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria in July 2015.
