Sunday Oliseh has resigned as the head coach of the Super Eagles, having steered the team since July 2015 till he resigned on February 26, 2016, amounting to a total of seven months in control of the team.
In his resignation letter to the Nigeria Football Federation, the coach detailed his reasons for terminating his contract with the football body.

1. Inadequate Personnel Care: The coach talked about his dissatisfaction over the nonchalant attitude of Nigeria's football body concerning regularly funding of the team's needs, while stating that the body failed to pay players and coaching staff on time, which impeded on the success of the team.
2. Staying Abroad: The coach does not own a residence in Nigeria, as a result chose to operate from Belgium where he was resided before he got the managerial job. He mentioned that he had to pay for his housing from his personal money.
3. Confrontation with Media: Oliseh was involved in a clash with Nigerian writers who lashed out at his conduct as team manager. He later went on to say that some writers were asking him for money so he can write something good about them.
4. Complaint about being ignored by NFF: He also complained about the lack of commitment of the Nigeria Football Federation concerning the welfare of the team which he had raised severally via e-mails.
5. CHAN Backlash: After failing to progress in the recently concluded 2016 African Nations Championship, Oliseh was blamed for the performance of the team at the competition though he feels it was as a result of him not gaining the right support.
