Football stars storm Liverpool legend's charity match

 
 
A slew of high profile football stars were present at the Steven Gerrard's charity match that held at Anfield

It was the gathering of football star-both retired and active-as Steven Gerrard hosted a charity match at home of Liverpool, Anfield.

Thierry Henry, John Terry, Didier Drogba, Xabi Alonso, Pepe Reina, Jon Arne Riise, Dirk Kuyt, Ryan Babel and a slew of other football stars took part in the game.

Former Anfield fan favourites Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres also made a return to their former home.

The stars divided themselves into two teams, one captained by Steven Gerrard and the other by Jamie Carragher.

Mario Balotelli opened the scoring of the afternoon with as he whipped a 25-yard cracking shot into the corner of in the ninth minute.

Didier Drogba doubled the lead for the Carragher led side, but Gerrard stepped twice to convcert two penalties.

The first one in the 36th minute after Martin Kelly had trip Jerome Sinclair and another just after the hour when Carragher quite clearly barged Luis Suarez over.

Suarez and Torres tried to round up their homecoming with a winner all to no avail, 2-2 it ended.

"It has been absolute brilliant, more than anything the charities have done well with a full house," Stevie G told told LFC TV afterwards.

"The hairs on my neck were standing up. There were times I didn't know who to pass to. People have gone out of their way to come here.

"It has been absolutely magical. Every player who was asked to come here did, whether they had to drive for an hour or get three flights."
