Sporting thwarted his plans four years ago, but Morita's dream is about to come true
Hidemasa Morita is set to join Hull City, according to BBC Sport journalist Mike White and confirmed by transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano. After his four-year contract with Sporting concluded, the Japanese midfielder will now fulfill his dream of playing in the Premier League.
English media reported on Wednesday afternoon that the 31-year-old had reached an agreement with the newly promoted Premier League side. It was also noted that Morita had been on Hull City's radar since his time at Santa Clara in January 2022, before his move to Alvalade.
All Sporting sales this summer
Excluded from Japan's 2026 World Cup squad by the national team coach, Morita had been seeking a new club since the end of the season. He was linked with Leeds United, who ultimately withdrew their interest, and more recently, Ipswich Town. However, Hull City moved swiftly with an official offer, winning the race for his signature.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Hidemasa is already in England to sign his contract and has successfully completed his medical examinations. At 31, Morita will embark on his third overseas experience, and his first outside of Portugal. His official debut is expected to be against Manchester United, featuring Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot.
