The Alvalade-based squad showcased their dominance by clinching six of the ten men's events contested across the Estádio Cidade de Coimbra and the Sobral de Ceira Throwing Training Center. Sporting's victories included Tsanko Arnaudov in the shot put and a comfortable win for José Carlos Pinto in the 5,000 meters. Gerson Baldé also impressed in the long jump, soaring to a mark of 8.14 meters.

The rivalry with Benfica was palpable in several events. In the 100 meters, Emmanuel Eseme edged out Reynier Berenguer by a mere five-hundredths of a second. João Coelho also secured a win for Sporting in the 400 meters, and in the 100-meter relay, Carlos Nascimento's crucial final leg sealed the green and white victory.

Meanwhile, Benfica, accumulating 70 points, claimed the remaining four triumphs of the day. National record holder Leandro Ramos dominated the javelin throw, while Isaac Nader cruised to an unchallenged victory in the 1,500 meters. Pedro Buaró secured the pole vault win, even attempting, though unsuccessfully, to break the national record. In the 5,000-meter race walk, young Eduardo Camarate, who had previously won in 2025 for Juventude Vidigalense, repeated his success.

In the women's competition, Sporting, aiming to defend a title they've held uninterrupted since 2011, also finished the day in the lead. Despite being favorites, the Lionesses head into the second day with a 12-point lead over Grupo Desportivo do Estreito, who surprised with victories in the hammer throw (Mariana Pestana) and the 1,500 meters (Maria Artiaga).

Nevertheless, the Lionesses secured six of the 11 events. Liliana Cá, in the discus throw, and Carina Vanessa, in the 400 meters, triumphed with significant margins. Sporting's other victories came from Tatjana Pinto (100 meters), Evelise Veiga (long jump), Anabela Neto (high jump), and in the 100-meter relay.

In other women's events, Mariana Machado of Sporting de Braga comfortably won the 5,000 meters. Additional victories were recorded by Vitória Oliveira (Jardim da Serra) in the 3,000-meter race walk and Petra Santos (Monte Abraão) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Benfica, absent from the competition in 2025, is currently competing in the women's 3rd division, finishing the first day in a modest 12th place.
