Jorge Lorenzo secured Movistar Yamaha's third triumph in four MotoGP races on Sunday with victory at the Spanish Grand Prix.

The Spaniard set the pace in qualifying and was never challenged at Jerez as Yamaha continued their early dominance of the 2015 campaign.

Lorenzo held off Marc Marquez at the start and promptly raced away from the field. Marquez - who competed despite undergoing surgery on an injured finger last weekend - took second.

Marquez's hold on second place was briefly threatened by Lorenzo's team-mate and world championship leader Valentino Rossi - winner of two of the first three races to start the season.

But Marquez found extra speed in the closing stages to seal a 20-point haul, with Lorenzo taking the plaudits from his home crowd for a straightforward day's work.

Rossi leads the championship standings by 15 points from Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso.

WHERE THE RACE WAS WON

The start. Pole-sitter Lorenzo kept his lead going into first corner and never looked like relinquishing it as he turned the race into a procession.

OFF TO A FLYER

Both Lorenzo and Marquez got a good jump off the line, quickly putting a decent gap between the top two and the chasing pack.

HOT LAP

Lorenzo also took the honour of the race's fastest lap with a time of one minute and 38.735secs.

RACE TO FORGET

Hiroshi Aoyama - riding for Repsol Honda as a replacement for the injured Dani Pedrosa - spectacularly crashed out at turn five when in a point-scoring position while Dovizioso finished ninth after an early error saw him fall to back of the pack.
