The works of Beninese-born American singer, Angélique Kidjo, and Nigerian musicians such as Sir Victor Uwaifo, 2Baba, Ice Prince, will be showcased by the BET and the Grammy Museum, at the “Sounds of Africa” exhibition, from June 24, 2016, till the end of the year.
The exhibition is a celebration of African music, and artistes who have won or got nomination for both the BET and Grammy Awards.
Other acts listed for the exhibition are Tabu Ley Rochereau, who is a singer from Congo, South African duo, Mafikizolo and Visual artist, Laolu Senbanjo.
Monde Twala, the Vice-President of BET Youth & Music, expressed his excitement concerning the planned exhibition in a press statement.
He said, “It’s fantastic to see the influence of African artists and music amplified in this unique exhibition in this iconic setting.”
“We are excited about working with the Grammy Museum to create this fascinating tribute to legendary, traditional and contemporary African musicians.”
The exhibit will showcase handwritten lyrics, costumes and unique musical instruments from all the artistes listed.
