The Super Eagles were beaten by Egypt 1-0 on Tuesday, March 29 in a 2017 AFCON qualifiers.

With the loss and Chad withdrawal from the qualifiers, the Super Eagles have been eliminated from the race to reach 2017.

Speaking after Nigeria’s loss to Egypt, Minister of sports, Solomon Dalung apologised to Nigerians and blamed the NFF for the defeat.

“I personally apologised to Nigerians for the inability of the Super Eagles to qualify for the campaign to AFCON. We must plan better again,” he wrote on Twitter.

“We have no good reason not to qualify if we had planned well and also organise ourselves rather it was crisis all the way rocking NFF.

"After this abysmal performance at AFCON qualifiers it's important we return to the drawing board to plan the future of football in Nigeria," he said.

Dalung further called on the resignation of the leadership of the NFF as a result of Super Eagles' faliure to qualify for 2017 AFCON.

"Nigerians cannot accept any reason for failure from anybody so we either deliver or we give way to those who can deliver success," he further said.

NFF president,  Amaju Pinnick has however responded saying he must complete his four-year tenure as boss of the Glass House.
