Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner, the reigning world number one and defending champion, secured his spot in the Wimbledon semi-finals on Tuesday after defeating Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff in straight sets.
Sinner needed two hours and 34 minutes to overcome the world number 74 on the grass courts of the season's third Grand Slam. The match scores were 7-5, 7-6 (7-4), and 6-3.
Struff had his best opportunity in the second set, holding a set point while Sinner served at 4-5 down. However, the Italian resisted, won the tie-break, and then a single break in the eighth game of the third set was enough to confirm his progression to the semi-finals for the third time in his career.
In the next round, Sinner will face the winner of the match between his compatriot Fabio Cobolli, currently world number 10, and Great Britain's Arthur Fery, ranked 114th in the ATP, who received a wildcard.
