With the scores locked at 2-2 late in the second period, Griffith - with his back to goal - flicked the puck with his stick through his legs - and it flew under Devils goaltender Cory Schneider and into the net.

Reilly Smith added another goal 80 seconds later to complete the scoring, adding to his assist for Carl Soderberg for the Bruins' first goal of the game.

Patrice Bergeron finished with one goal and two assists for the winners, while Travis Zajac scored the Devils' first and assisted Jaromir Jagr with their second.

The win was Boston's fifth in a row, taking them third in the Eastern Conference's Atlantic division, three points behind leaders the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Conversely, the Devils have lost four straight to be seven points behind Metropolitan leaders the Pittsburgh Penguins.

In the day's other game, the Carolina Hurricanes caused a boilover with a 4-1 win over the Calgary Flames.

The Hurricanes are second bottom in Metropolitan, and only one point behind the third-bottom Devils, after coming from behind to seal two points.

David Jones' power-play goal for the Flames had them ahead in the 14th minute, but Zach Boychuk equalised four minutes later.

Justin Faulk scored the go-ahead goal early in the second period, and got his second assist of the game when Jeff Skinner made it 3-1.

Skinner got the assist for Tim Gleason who scored Carolina's fourth, as they earned just their fifth win in 14 games this season.
