Volvo to begin trials on Britain's roads in 2017

Volvo has announced plans to begin trial of it's self-driving technology in the United Kingdom.

According to DailyMail, this is an 'ambitious trial' that will begin early next year.

Hakan Samuelsson, president of the company, said, "Autonomous driving represents a leap forward in car safety.

The sooner AD cars are on the roads, the sooner lives will start being saved."

Volvo says this test will done with British residents on a public highway.

These tests will be carried out adapted versions of Volvo's XC90 sport utility.

According to the Swedish manufacturer, the trial cars will have additional computer systems, cameras and sensors to enable them to carry out steering, lane changes, acceleration and braking without driver control.

This brings us one step closer to a world with self-driving cars.
