Romero Talks Ongoing, Inter Pushing for Lower Price

Inter Milan continues direct negotiations with both Cristian Romero's agent and Tottenham Hotspur, with the club confident they can finalize a €40 million deal. According to "Sportitalia," discussions continued yesterday, with progress made on both fronts – with the player and the club.

The Nerazzurri's advantage lies in the fact that both Romero and Spurs are aware their collaboration has run its course. The asking price is €50 million, but the tension between the two parties and the relative lack of other alternatives give Inter hope they can reduce the sum to €40 million.

Tottenham is unwilling to accept a loan with an obligatory purchase clause, so the Italian club is attempting to raise the necessary funds for a direct cash offer. This could be achieved by reallocating money initially earmarked for a Denzel Dumfries replacement, instead moving Andy Diouf to the right flank.

Barcelona was the other major contender for Romero's signature, but it appears the Catalans have withdrawn their interest. Inter still needs to negotiate the contract length, player salary, and performance-related bonuses. Nevertheless, the Argentine international is eager to join the Nerazzurri and return to Serie A after previous stints with Genoa, Juventus, and Atalanta.
