The axe has fallen on Rob Edwards. The 43-year-old manager has been sacked just seven months after taking charge of Wolverhampton Wanderers, Sky Sports and local newspaper Express & Star reported on Thursday. The club's relegation to the English second division sealed the manager's fate, with an official announcement pending.

César Peixoto is set to replace Edwards. The Portuguese coach, who guided Gil Vicente to a remarkable sixth-place finish in the Portuguese Liga last season, will now take the helm at Wolves, as A BOLA had previously reported.

Edwards, who arrived at Molineux in November to succeed Vítor Pereira, was unable to prevent the club from finishing bottom of the Premier League, leading to their relegation to the Championship. In his 30 games in charge, the manager secured just five wins and suffered 16 defeats.

The manager was already preparing for the upcoming Championship season, having secured the free transfers of defender Kieran Trippier from Newcastle and Mexican forward Raul Jimenez, who returns to the club after a spell at Fulham. He was informed of the decision on Thursday morning, according to the Express & Star.
