Legendary former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has urged the Red Devils' hierarchy to sign 38-year-old Karim Benzema. The Frenchman is currently a free agent after parting ways with Al-Hilal at the end of August. Speculation had linked him with a romantic return to Lyon, but a deal never materialized.
United are currently facing problems at centre-forward. Benjamin Šeško has yet to start a Premier League fixture this season, while Joshua Zirkzee appears entirely out of Michael Carrick's plans, with the manager opting to deploy Matheus Cunha in the central role instead.
"Without Šeško, there is virtually no focal point in attack. We have players who often prefer to drop deep to receive the ball and help build up play, but that leaves you without that presence up front. Naturally, Welbeck springs to mind, as does Benzema—two players who, in my opinion, would add tremendous value to our current frontline," Rio Ferdinand said.
