Wayne Rooney Named England Captain

Rooney will be wearing the captain's armband when England begin campaign for the 2018 European Championship qualifiers

Manager Roy Hodgson named his squad for the country's forthcoming international friendlies named the United skipper captain

Rooney was best suited for the position after the retirement of former skipper Steven Gerrard, and vice Frank Lampard

Hodgson said

He has capped 95 times for the Three Lions, 20 behind Beckham, and Peter Shilton

28 year-old Rooney is expected to lead the first time as captain in friendly against Norway and Euro 2016 qualifier Switzerland in Basel on September 8
