Phiona discovers the intriguing world of chess by accident, and one year later, she was winning medals abroad. Phiona's no-nonsense, widowed mother is played by Lupita Nyong'o who executed the role perfectly from beginning to end of the movie.

tells a story of strength and courage and determination in the face of all odds. In the midst of their poverty and suffering, Phiona promises to one day buy her mother a house and she eventually did that. David Oyelowo, British-Nigerian actor, plays the role of Phiona's coach Robert Katende.

When all the chips seemed to be down and her life was further complicated by her sister's unplanned pregnancy, Robert Katende, her coach assures her that she can create a future better than her sister's.

If you're the sentimental type, you'd shed a tear or two while seeing this movie. More importantly, you'd be inspired. A powerful moment in 'Queen of Katwe' is when Phiona said assertively that she was not afraid of losing because it only teaches her to play better.

'Queen of Katwe' is probably one of the best movies you'd see this year. The journey of Phiona's rise from grass to grace couldn't have been better told.
