As a matter of fact I have asked people around me this question: if as a legal member of an independent nation I am entitled to some fundamental human rights, then what happened to my freedom of speech, my right to speak my conscience as an adult without the fear of being bullied or intimidated by fellow citizens who see themselves as more influential and powerful?
The new age we live in is the age of social media, the age where virtually everyone uses their social media handle to speak on their behalf. Even politicians are allowed to make use of their social media handle to propagate their political achievements.
It is at this point that they {Public servants} should be prepared for antagonistic comments under such posts and also be prepared to either ignore such comments and move on with their duties which I believe is to serve the people who elected them into office or constructively reply in a way that would accord them more respect from their fellow citizens.
What integrity is left for a serving public servant whose only way to deal with a comment passed at him on the internet demanding the evidence of effective discharge of his duties is to send out his political thugs to bring such citizen out to his constituency office so as to threaten and molest him to desist from future criticism.
There is a saying ‘Do your best and leave the rest’ which brings me to ask; if you have been given a pass mark by your conscience, that you have effectively done your primary assignment as a serving politician, then you need not use your elevated post to shut the public from airing their opinions about you.
Such act has reflected just one thing ------FEAR.
Howbeit Mr. Politician, What are you afraid of?
Let us all do our respective jobs and leave criticisms constructive or otherwise to those whose job that is!
