"Performance without compromise" by Charles F.Knight Chairman Emeritus, Emerson with Davis Dyer [Book review]
At Courteville business solution where I work, a book club for members of the staff started some weeks ago, the club is called’’ a book , a month’’ where 30 interested staff will come together once a month to discuss and share ideas on book that was picked. members of the club also have the platform to build their public speaking skills and grow their emotional intelligence spirit, spoken words, new words and guest authors are part of the things the brain behind the group, Doyin Sadiq introduced.
While Doyin the corporate affairs officer of the company was giving her opening remark, she pointed out the purpose of the club, that it's to keep the reading culture in Nigeria and in the organization alive and to also follow the footsteps of great leaders. The group’s general manager of the company Mr Bola Akindele was around to give words of encouragements and to bless the group.
Mr.Bola also promised to provide books for members of the club every month which he started during the company's budgeting season. He handed the book ETHICS 101 by John C. Maxwell to all the members of the group in front of other staff and all the EXCO of the organization which welcomes the club into courteville world.
Our November book is 'How To Read More' by;Martin Udogie, you remember in one of my review i talked about the book and i said the review will be coming out soon. This month watch out for the review of the book from members of 'A BOOK A MONTH' and you can get a copy of the book and read along with us, send your review to doyin.sadiq@courtevillegroup.com or tolubooks@gmail.com
I was not supposed to read ETHICS 101 by John C. Maxwell now, the cover of the book and from past experience of who John is and how he writes, made start off the book. I will not talk about the book now, i pray the information and insight from the book will allow me to wait till next month before I discuss it will the members of my Club. I pray so!
You can read the book and let's talk privately about the Ethics golden rules meanwhile, you remember i told you about 'PERFORMANCE WITHOUT COMPROMISE' by; Charles F.Knight Chairman Emeritus, Emerson with Davis Dyer. The books are about how a company have stood the test of time for more than 150 years,It's an in depth teaching on their plans, Cole values, processes, vision and how they were changing their operation but still remain with what they stood for. One of the author of the book Charles Knight head this organization for more than sixty years and he has been on the board of director to companies like IMB, Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc., AT&T Inc., BP plc and Morgan Stanley.
Knight principles of organization growth is what can be applied to your business no matter the level it is, while reading the book I discovered that most of the things he shared can also be a tool that will bring your dreams either corporate or personal into reality. The author of the book talked about what he called 'Executing the plan' he said based on Emerson's. Experience as well as my personal experience as a director of other large organization we believe that when companies struggle, the reason is not because they don't know what to do but because for whatever reason, the organization doesn't do it. He also shared the step in carry out your executing plans.
This process may sound boring but re-doing or re-visiting the plans every year creates tremendous momentum and excitement, and paying attention to detail helps us deliver consistent, constantly improving results. Knight pointed this out, that some of the mistakes most companies make is people who come up with the change plan are not always involved to carry out what they came up with.
He said, “we insist on integrity in everything we do, our board, Investors, customers, and employees all want the same thing: consistent high performance and experience tells us that when we concentrate on the fundamental and constantly follow up ,there is no reason we can't do well consistently. Profitability is a state of mind to achieve results over the long term, we must consistently generate high profits, we believe we can do this if our people are fully committed, focused, disciplined, and willing to work hard i believe finding new ways to add value for customers is the path to success.”
The CEO blueprint to a successful organizational development has nine chapters that kick start from The Secret of Emerson’s Success (The Management Process) to the Growth (The Ultimate Challenge), the amazing chapter Getting Thing Done (Organization Approach and Leadership) and the exhibition into the Operational Excellence of emerson, how they turned From Technology Follower to Technology Leader with the way they handle The Globalization of Markets and Competition.
