Portuguese Football Federation President Pedro Proença has addressed the search for a new national team head coach following their World Cup exit. The Portuguese national team returned to Lisbon yesterday after a 1-0 loss to Spain in the Round of 16. The incumbent national coach, Roberto Martinez, has already announced his resignation, and local media yesterday revealed that Jorge Jesus is almost certainly the new manager.
“We were aware of what the Portuguese people expected, and this World Cup proved far from what we had hoped for. The profile of the new coach has already been defined. He must be someone with excellent knowledge of Portuguese football and who shares the federation’s commitment to winning. I will personally handle this matter, and I expect concrete news to emerge by the end of the week,” Expresso quoted Proença as saying.
