Pulse Nigeria recently chatted with the rapper via email about her song, background and ambitions.

On her name:

Vitarah is my middle name.

On her background:

I first moved from Nigeria to Houston. And then about six months ago in August 2015, I moved from Houston to Los Angeles.

I used to live in Nigeria and have been there many times, the last of which was last year. I love going back home to see my family and friends but I know that I have a lot of things to accomplish in the music industry so that is why I moved to Los Angeles. But I definitely visit back home often.

On her musical journey:

Upon arrival in LA I began working with different producers because I knew that I wanted to be a rapper. I started working on Nigerian Pussy at the end of January and by February 1, 2016 the song was complete. We shot the video on February 7 and the director used about three weeks to edit it. He did a very good job as did my producer when we were in the studio.

How would you describe your music and personality?

I would describe my music and my personality as fun, bold, confident, and as a trendsetter. I like to bring new ideas and thoughts to music and not copy what other people are doing. I like to lead the way not follow.

Did you envisage the reaction that the song got you?

I didn't think about how people would react. I was just focused on making the song and video as good as possible. So when it went viral overnight I was surprised but in a pleasant manner. The reaction has been past anything I imagined.

What inspired the song?

'Nigerian pussy' of course and just Nigerian women in general. Nigerian women are known for being some of the smartest and hardworking women in the world. The song is not just about 'Nigerian pussy' it’s about Nigerian women as a whole saying that we have swag and that we know how to get what we want from any man or anybody.

Do you think the song will be appreciated in conservative and prudish Nigerian society?

I'm not sure but either way that's not my audience. My audience is young people like myself who like to have fun and enjoy creative music. This song is not for grandmas and grandpas - lol. I make music for adults and the younger generation who are hip and see the direction that music is headed.

Why do you think the song was such an instant Internet success?

The song is an instant success because it is new and fresh and my lyrics are raw and real. People relate to it on an artistic level because they have never seen an artist like me before and I know they are ready for something new. I know what the people really want and I'm not afraid to give it to them.

We noticed YouTube took down your video. Why did this happen?

The video is back up now and has 70,000 plus views. The old video was taken down because a lot of people were reporting it. It's okay to not like a song but I don't think someone should go as far as to report it because time and creativity went into it. If they don't like it they should just comment their opinion and move along. But the video is now being curated by a YouTube partner so we will not be having that problem again.

What was your reaction when Olamide (of YBNL Nation) and Perez Hilton tweeted about your song?

I was excited and very happy. As an artist the best feeling is when you put out music and people rave about it and say that they love it. There is no better feeling as a musician. I really appreciate their support.

Will you be dropping anything else soon?

I'm always working on new music but I actually just dropped 'Nigerian pussy' less than one week ago. Lol - my fans have to be patient.

What us your future ambition in the music industry?

To take over the rap game and open the door for other Nigerian and African artists on an international level.

Which Nigerian artists do you hope to work with in future?

I hope to work with Olamide and Davido in the future. They're my two favorite Nigerian artists and I think we all have a similar style of music. They're both raw and real, and I think if we collab we could make something mad that the fans wouldn't be able to contain.

With regards to the comments from your Twitter account about Tiwa Savage, was your account really hacked? What do you think of the singer?

Yes my account was really hacked. I would never post those types of things about another artist, especially one whom I respect and admire like her. I think she is dope and she has definitely paved the way for other Nigerian and African artists. Shoutout to Tiwa Savage and the whole Mavin family. Me and Don Jazzy follow each other on Instagram and I have nothing but love for them.

Princess Vitarah is currently working on getting the clean version of her song on radio in Nigeria and in the United States of America.  Check out her 'Nigerian pussy' video below:
