Prince Harry Says the Popular Videogame Fortnite 'Shouldn't Be Allowed'
"That game shouldn't be allowed. Where is the benefit of having it in your household?, he asked at a YMCA event in West London, according to the . "It's created to addict, an addiction to keep you in front of a computer for as long as possible. It's so irresponsible.
While the entire shouldnt be allowed angle probably opens up a whole separate discourse about what else should and shouldn't "be allowed" (and probably would create quite the slippery slope), he does raise a good point about video game addiction, and the idea of needing to break oneself away from modern technology and screens at large. He went on to also talk about social media at the event, which he said was "more addictive than alcohol and drugs."
Part of what makes Fortnite such a massive hit is the fact that it's entirely free to play-users just need to sign up, and within moments they can find themselves in the heat of the action. What the game calls 'microtransactions' allows for small in-game purchases to increase the player's experience, should they feel so inclined.
Harry is a long time hater of Twitter in particular, once saying that he "really quite hate[s] Twitter by the invasion of privacy." He himself does not appear to have Tweeted since 2016 .
The Prince is far from the game's only public critic, however, in all forms of life. A few weeks ago, it was reported that Carlos Santana, a Major League Baseball player who spent the 2018 season with the Philadelphia Phillies, destroyed a television with a bat in the clubhouse because his teammates were playing Fortnite during games.
It's not clear if Prince Harry's dislike for the popular game has reached 'destroy things with a baseball bat' level, but it sounds like he might be well on his way.
