The Lagos state government has aborted the BRT contract.

Without giving Lagosians time to recover, Dr Dayo Mobereola, the Commissioner for Transportation, has announced that this termination will begin today, January 7th.

This spells doom for Lagosians.

What happens to the 450,000 passengers the new BRT buses were supposed to carry daily?

"This one, on daily basis, will carry almost 450,000 passengers. It is meant to showcase that the way to go is to create a public transportation that will move the people en masse. A city with 22 million people needs efficient, reliable, accessible and safe transportation system. This is just an example of what we planned for Lagos State.”

The above statement was issued by Mobereola, two months ago.

Where will they go?

I predict chaos and anarchy on the streets, with people shoving and jostling to get on the few buses left.

Also, putting BRT buses out of commission gives room for a hike in transport fare, something the passengers will have no choice, but to pay.

While the people in charge of the BRT buses may not have complied with the state's directives, there is no denying that those buses helped alleviate traffic in the state.

Hopefully, the state government has a backup plan.

Until, evidence of a replacement is seen, Lagosians have just been condemned to long 'walks of life and constant traffic.

Do you agree with the termination of BRT buses?
