Portuguese Tennis Players Learn Estoril Open Rivals as Tournament Kicks Off Monday
Nuno Borges, Henrique Rocha, and Tiago Pereira now know their first-round opponents at the 11th edition of the Estoril Open, which runs until Sunday at the Estoril Tennis Club, following the conclusion of the qualifying rounds.
Portugal's top-ranked player, Nuno Borges, currently world No. 52, will face Brazil's Orlando Luz (ATP No. 1,072). Luz secured his first main draw singles appearance on the ATP circuit in nine years after winning both of his qualifying matches. The Brazilian also features in the doubles competition alongside compatriot Rafael Matos.
Meanwhile, Henrique Rocha (ATP No. 124) is set to challenge experienced Spaniard Pedro Martinez (ATP No. 157), who was a finalist at the tournament in 2024.
Youngster Tiago Pereira (ATP No. 379) will go head-to-head with Peru's Gonzalo Bueno (ATP No. 176). The 22-year-old Bueno earned his spot in the main draw of the Portuguese ATP 250 event by eliminating Italy's Andrea Pellegrino in the second round of qualifying. Pereira made his debut at the event in 2025, when it was still an ATP Challenger Tour tournament.
Jaime Faria, ranked 92nd in the ATP rankings and making his third appearance at the Portuguese ATP 250, will face Botic Van de Zandschulp (No. 55) of the Netherlands for the first time.
Three of the six Portuguese tennis players in the draw are scheduled to play on Monday.
Tiago Torres (No. 381) will take on Georgia's Nikoloz Basilashvili (No. 135), while Frederico Silva (No. 233) is set to play against France's Luca van Assche (No. 86).
Later in the day, Henrique Rocha will make his debut in the first round of the main draw at the Estoril Tennis Club.
