Barcelona and Spain midfielder Pedri has called for an end to the constant comparisons between his teammate Lamine Yamal and football's all-time greats. The playmaker stressed that the young prodigy is already a genuine difference-maker on the pitch and should be allowed to play with freedom, unburdened by unrealistic expectations.
"I always see that drive to win in him, alongside a genuine joy for the game. Whenever the ball is at his feet—whether he is dribbling, scoring, or assisting—you can tell just how much fun he's having. He is a massive difference-maker out there. However, he shouldn't be compared to anyone. If the focus is on Leo Messi, it's going to be extraordinarily difficult to measure up to the greatest player in history. He just needs to stay calm, and everything will happen naturally. He is the best player in the world, and our job is to help him stay level-headed and keep enjoying his football," Pedri said.
The Spanish international made the remarks during the official pre-match press conference ahead of the Catalan giants' Champions League clash away to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.
Barcelona currently sit at the summit of La Liga with a perfect tally of 27 points following an impressive run of nine consecutive victories.
