At the ongoing World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada, Paraguay advanced to the Round of 16, where they narrowly lost 1-0 to France. In the previous round, "La Albirroja" sensationally eliminated Germany after a penalty shootout.
"Alfaro took over the national team during a challenging period following their unsuccessful Copa America 2024 campaign. He managed to rebuild the squad and, after 16 years, once again lead Paraguay to the World Cup. Thanks to him, a strong bond has been re-established between the national team and the fans, who, after a successful tournament, flocked to Asunción airport to welcome the players. We want Alfaro to continue his work until the 2030 World Cup. The decision is entirely up to him," stated Robert Harrison, president of the Paraguayan Football Federation, to South American media.
