The Paralympic gold medalist shot his then-girlfriend through a locked bathroom door on Valentine's Day 2013, but said he mistook Steenkamp for an intruder and was duly convicted of culpable homicide.

An appeal court in South Africa decided the original verdictwas 'flawed and the athlete was  re-sentenced by the original court.

At a hearing last month, prosecutors argued Pistorius should have been convicted of murder.

They want his prison term increased to a minimum of 15 years.

A murder conviction carries a much heftier sentence: a minimum of 15 years in jail in South Africa.

Judge said he would have known that firing into the toilet cubicle would have led to death - but went ahead anyway.

The  29-year-old  was released on house arrest this October, having served just a fifth of his five-year prison sentence.
