Onyekuru, Troost-Ekong lead Pulse Sports' Nigerian Team of the Weekend

With a slew of Nigerian players in action over the weekend for their respective clubs all over the world, we review the best performances to come up with Team of the Week.

Goalkeeper

Daniel Akpeyi (Chippa United)

Back in action for Chippa United, Super Eagles goalkeeper Akpeyi was impressive between the post for Chippa United who held Kaizer Chiefs to a goalless draw away in the South African Premier Soccer League.

Defenders

Semi Ajayi (Rotherham)

A defender by trade, Ajayi played as a defensive midfielder and impressed as Rotherham came out with a 1-1 away at Blackburn in the Championship.

William Troost-Ekong (Udinese)

Rare to see a defender from a losing side get rave review but Troost-Ekong impressive showing for Udinese 1-2 away loss at Empoli on Sunday got him in Serie A’s Team of Matchday 12.

Kenneth Omeruo (Leganés)

Nigerian defender Kenneth Omeruo has taken to La Liga like a duck to water and was solid again as he helped Leganés leave Girona without conceding a goal in a goalless draw on Saturday.

Stephen Eze (Lokomotiv Plovdiv)

Stephen Eze has been one of the most consistent Nigerian players in Europe but Bulgarian football is not much fancied over here which means his performances week in, week out has often been overlooked. This weekend he was solid again for Lokomotiv Plovdiv and played the whole 90 minutes in their  1-1 draw away at Slavia Sofia.

Midfielders

Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester City)

Reliable as ever, Ndidi was also impressive for Leicester City who could only manage a goalless draw at home to Burnley on Saturday.

Joel Obi (Chievo Verona)

Nigerian midfielder Obi netted his first goal for Chievo Verona who managed to get a point courtesy of a 2-2 home draw against Bologna.

Blessing Eleke (Luzern)

Nigerian forward Eleke scored for Luzern who beat Lugano 4-1 away in a Swiss Super League game. The Nigerian came in as a second half-substitute to net the last goal of the win for Luzern in the 75th minute.

Samuel Chukwueze (Villarreal)

Super Eagles new boycontinues with his impressive start of the season at Villarreal with a goal, his first for the La Liga club in their 2-2 away draw at Rayo Vallecano. The former Flying Eagles star gave Villarreal the lead in the 33rd minute.

Henry Onyekuru (Galatasaray)

Super Eagles forward Henry Onyekuru scored a brace for Galatasaray over the weekend to end a six league-game streak. Onyekuru’s brace helped Galatasaray to a  3-0 away win over Kayserispor in a Turkish Super Lig game.

Paul Onuachu (Midtjylland)

Another big weekend for Onuachu who netted his ninth goal for Midtjylland who thrashed Vejle Boldklub 5-0 on Sunday to go top of the Danish Superliga table.
