Rio 2016: Tianna Bartoletta wins long jump gold

Tianna Bartoletta added Olympic gold to her World Championship long jump title with a personal best of 7.17 metres.

Bartoletta's leap of 7.14m was enough to triumph in Beijing last year, but she went even further in Rio for a second Olympic medal.

The American - who was part of the US 4x100m relay gold medal winning quartet at London 2012 - was the leader at the cut with a jump of 6.95m, with Russian Darya Klishina - granted permission to compete following a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport - one of four athletes dropping out after three attempts.

However, Bartoletta found herself down in the bronze medal position as Ivana Spanovic and Brittney Reese passed the seven-metre mark.

Bartoletta responded in exemplary fashion, producing the winning jump with her fifth attempt.

Reese looked to have beaten that with her final effort but a dropped elbow cost her valuable centimetres, as she had to settle for silver with a jump of 7.15m.
