Benfica officially announced on Monday the permanent transfer of striker Gustavo Varela to Italian club Monza. The Italian club also confirmed the player's arrival.
The 21-year-old forward will depart for an immediate €2.5 million. The agreement also secures Benfica 20 percent of any future sale, in addition to a buy-back option clause.
Having been with the Eagles since January 2022, Gustavo Varela made 70 appearances and scored 22 goals across Benfica's youth ranks. He made his senior team debut on the final matchday of the 2023/24 Liga season, coming on in the 75th minute against Rio Ave (1-1).
During the 2025/26 season, he played for Gil Vicente on loan, where he featured in 33 matches and netted seven goals.
In a statement published on their official website, Benfica extended their best wishes to the player for “sporting success and personal happiness.”
