Nuno Borges arrives at Wimbledon with optimism, believing that his semi-final appearance at the Mallorca tournament provided him with "good references" for the British Grand Slam. The Portuguese tennis player is confident he has a strong chance of advancing to the second round if he performs at his best against American Tristan Boyer.

"I was pleased with the semi-finals in Mallorca. Those were three good wins in that tournament," stated the national number one in comments to the Lusa agency, emphasizing the importance of arriving at the All England Club with grass-court victories, despite acknowledging the unique characteristics of the London tournament.

"I feel that all grass-court tournaments are a little different, but, without a doubt, it gives me good references to play well at Wimbledon," Borges added, noting that "the weather in London is always a bit different, and the courts are also different."

The 29-year-old Maia-born tennis player expressed his excitement to compete in the world's most prestigious grass-court tournament. "There's no grass quite like Wimbledon's. I've already practiced on the courts here, and it's always a pleasure to be at this tournament. It's probably the most coveted tournament in the world, so I'm very enthusiastic," he confessed.

In the first round, the current world No. 53 will face Tristan Boyer, ranked 193rd and a qualifier. Borges admits he doesn't know his opponent well but prefers to focus on his own performance. "I don't know my next opponent well; I might need to study him a bit more. Either way, my job also involves focusing on myself and playing a good match. Above all, I know I have a good chance if I play well," he analyzed.

When asked about a potential second-round clash with world number one Jannik Sinner, the Portuguese player was emphatic in dismissing that scenario for now. "There are no thoughts about the second round, because I have a best-of-five match to win in the first round. If I get the victory, then we'll talk," he concluded.

Nuno Borges' main draw debut is scheduled for Monday. It's worth remembering that his best result at Wimbledon was reaching the third round in the previous edition. In addition to Borges, Portugal also has Jaime Faria in the singles draw, who also successfully navigated qualification, and Francisco Cabral in the doubles competition.
