Portuguese tennis player Nuno Borges secured his spot in the second round of the ATP 250 Mallorca Championships on Sunday, delivering a dominant performance to defeat France's Adrian Mannarino, the tournament's eighth seed, with a decisive double 6-2.
In a grass-court encounter lasting 1 hour and 18 minutes, the 29-year-old national number one, currently ranked 54th in the ATP, completely outplayed his opponent. Borges once again asserted his superiority over the 37-year-old French veteran, ranked 44th globally, extending his head-to-head advantage to 3-0.
This marked the third meeting between the two players. Their previous clashes, both resulting in victories for the Portuguese, took place on hard court in 2024 and on clay earlier this year in Barcelona.
The ATP 250 Mallorca Championships is part of the final stretch of the grass-court season, serving as one of the last preparatory tournaments before Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam of the year, which commences on the 29th. Borges has direct entry into the main draw of the prestigious event.
In the second round, Borges is set to face the winner of the match between Spain's Martin Landaluce and Germany's Jan Lennard Struff.
