Morris was initially expected to miss just a few games, but surgery on Monday will see him sidelined until at least July.

The news is a huge blow for the Bulldogs and the 29-year-old full-back, a New South Wales State of Origin representative.

"Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs full-back Brett Morris yesterday underwent an arthroscope but complications required that surgery be performed," a statement from the Bulldogs read.

"The rehab process will take four months and he is expected to return later in 2016."
