Not Even Ronaldo's Style Escapes Scrutiny: "He Has the Worst Look of the World Cup"
Cristiano Ronaldo isn't having an easy World Cup. Criticism is pouring in for his performances both on and off the field. Even the Portuguese captain's style hasn't escaped scrutiny.
Renowned stylist Guillermo Mariotto, invited by Gazetta dello Sport, was asked to evaluate Cristiano Ronaldo's appearance upon arriving in the USA... and gave him a zero. "I think this is, without a doubt, the worst look I've seen at the World Cup," he began.
"The only thing I like in that photo is the bag, while the rest is entirely composed of high-fashion brands that he wears and with which, I imagine, he has some kind of sponsorship deal," he remarked.
Mariotto deemed Ronaldo "a great example that money doesn't buy good taste." He added, "His outfit was reportedly valued at over a million dollars. To me, however, it's just a million zeros."
While the Al Nassr forward faced fierce criticism, Messi... was lauded. The Italian stylist believes the Argentine number 10 "can dress however he wants."
According to Mariotto, Messi should inspire Cristiano Ronaldo: "His clothes are uncomplicated, and for me, simplicity always pays off. After all, he's still the kid from Rosario, so I want to reward consistency. Ronaldo should definitely follow his example."
The only perfect score, a 10, was awarded to... Bubista, Cape Verde's coach: "In my opinion, Cape Verde is the most beautiful fairy tale of this World Cup, and not even the coach expected to get this far, as his clothing choice clearly demonstrates. Even in this case, however, I want to praise the simplicity: a white shirt and jeans are the epitome of style, an unpretentious choice that never fails."
