The house committees on telecommunications and privatization have been tasked with the task of conducting a comprehensive investigation into the liquidation and subsequent of the two companies by the NATCOM consortium.

Various media reports have revealed that the House of Representatives, yesterday, moved to conduct an investigation into the sale of Nigerian Telecommunications (NITEL), and Mobile Telecommunication (MTEL) by the Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE).

The house committees on telecommunications and privatization have been tasked with the task of conducting a comprehensive investigation into the liquidation and subsequent of the two companies by the NATCOM Consortium.

The committees are both expected to report back to the house in eight weeks for further legislative action.

The decision to prove the sale of the companies was brought about by a motion filed by the Hon. Henry Nwawuba titled: “Call for Investigation of the Sales of Nigerian Telecommunications, NITEL, and Mobile Telecommunications, MTEL, by NATCOM”.

NITEL and MTEL was sold to the NATCOM Consortium for $242.3 million by the BPE back in December 2014.
