The Flames did not disclose terms of Giordano's new deal, but the defenseman is reportedly set to earn $40.5million at an annual average of $6.75m.

Giordano, who is entering the final season of a five-year deal, posted a career-high 48 points in 61 games last season before suffering a torn biceps tendon in February as the Flames reached the play-offs for the first time since 2009.

The 31-year-old has spent his entire NHL career in Calgary after joining the team as an undrafted free agent in 2004.

Giordano has tallied 66 goals and 179 assists in 510 regular-season games.
