Amaju Pinnick has stated that the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) is proud of the Super Eagles performance in Cameroon. He acknowledged that the red card made the job more daunting, yet the players still gave their all.

“We [the NFF] are proud of the efforts of the players. They gave their all and tried very hard to win even when they had a numerical disadvantage. It was just not our day,” Pinnick stated.

He also commended the fighting spirit and general approach taken by the team.

"Losing at this stage is painful but we take solace in the great spirit with which the team approached its four matches in Cameroon, out of which it won three." the NFF President said.

Despite the obvious disappointment, Pinnick said that the work starts now and the team would need to work harder.

“The focus and attention will now shift to the FIFA World Cup qualifying play-off against Ghana in March. We want to assure Nigerians that we will prepare even harder for those two matches to get the job done.” Pinnick told reporters.

Jose Peseiro will now take over as Super Eagles handler from Augustine Eguavoen. The Portuguese manager will take charge of his first match in March against the Black Stars of Ghana.
