Nollywood stars show concern for football board
Nollywood actors, Yul Edochie and Ejike Asiegbu, have shown their concern over the ongoing power tussle in the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The pair of Amaju Pinnick and Chris Giwa have been at logger-heads over the position of the president of the football body.
Yul Edochie while speaking to sports daily, Completesports, said, "We must do the right thing to move football forward in Nigeria,"
"Football is key to the development of the youths in this country. And we all love the game."
"We want to see our Nigeria celebrated in the comity of nations. I want to see the crisis resolved in the best interest of our country."
Ejike Asiegbu, who is the former president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, also offered his comments concerning the drama.
He shared his hopes that the Giwa faction would respect the instruction from world football governing body, FIFA which advised the NFF to put its house in order of face sanctions.
Asiegbu said, "What can I say? Nigeria Football Federation or Association as the case may be is always in one crisis or the other which invariably affects the teams' preparations for international competitions."
"In most cases, because of personal interests of some Nigerians development of the game and individual efforts of our players and athletes have been undermined.
"I hope the Chris Giwa faction must respect the rules of the game and FIFA's orders. Anyway this is not the first time."
"I believe this will be solved but Nigerians will not forgive both parties if Nigeria is banned. The future of several talented boys and girls could be jeopardised."
A Federal High Court sitting in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, had ruled that the current president of the NFF, Amaju Pinnick, should vacate his office for Chris Giwa.
FIFA has objected to this, stating that Nigeria risks the possibility of suspension if such ruling is carried out.
Therefore instructing that Pinnick be allowed to complete his term as president of the Nigeria Football Federation.
This instruction has however not been followed as Giwa has reportedly assumed office as the NFF president.
