Neemias Queta: The Emotion of a Portuguese Player in the Playoffs and Who Wins at Catan
As the Boston Celtics gear up for the NBA Playoffs, ahead of their first-round clash against the Philadelphia 76ers, Neemias Queta discussed managing emotions while making history for himself and his country. “Being from Portugal, being the first Portuguese player in the NBA is great, but I’m trying to stay as balanced as possible. It’s the playoffs. A lot of emotions can either help or hurt,” he stated.
For the Portuguese international, the main focus is clear: “Helping my team win, getting on the court and giving my best effort, that’s what I want to concentrate on.”
In an unusual moment following a recent Boston Celtics practice, forward Jordan Walsh stepped into the role of a journalist to quiz his teammate about his playoff preparations, with a… particular focus.
The young player asked Neemias how a playoff rookie should prepare off the court. “Going into these playoffs, being your first time, how do you organize everything off the court, what do you do to prepare?” Walsh inquired, adding playfully: “Maybe video games, eating all my snacks, what do you do?”
Queta responded with humor. “I try not to give you a ride,” the center quipped. “I try to stay the same, do the same things I’ve been doing all season, like beating you at Catan [a board game Celtics players have often been seen taking on trips].”
The Portuguese player emphasized the importance of maintaining routine to stay focused. “I do the same things as always, being at home, playing video games, relaxing, being with family and friends, and that’s what’s going to keep me grounded,” he explained.
