The Los Angeles Clippers were not getting carried away with their 107-92 victory over NBA champions San Antonio Spurs.

Guard Chris Paul posted 32 points, but moved to water down their dominant victory - claiming Spurs' poor shooting was a contributor to the Clippers' comfortable game one win in their Western Conference first-round series.

"It's one game, it is what it is," Paul told a news conference.

"I know, from guarding Tony [Parker], he missed a lot of shots that he could have made.

"They were right there in the basket, they were in and out, I [will] look at the film and see what I can do better to defend him."

Parker finished with just four baskets made from 11 attempts, to tally 10 points.

Paul said the Clippers were not getting ahead of themselves ahead of game two at the Staples Center on Wednesday.

"Luckily, it's not a one-on-one game," Paul replied, when asked if he was more urgent to deliver success to the franchise.

"It's not about my sense of urgency, I think we as a team have a sense of urgency.

"It's me, Blake (Griffin) and DJ's (DeAndre Jordan) fourth year together. We've been through a lot together... right now, we're just trying to take it one day at a time and worry about each game."

Parker lauded the Clippers' defence, claiming they gave him fewer shooting opportunities.

"They did a great job. They're hard-hedging," the Frenchman said.

"I had to give the ball away, and ball movement - that's what Pop [Spurs coach Gregg Popovich] wants.

"You have to give them a lot of credit, they wanted to make sure I don't have the ball in my hands and [that] I try to give it up as soon as I can. We just didn't make shots."

On Paul, Parker said: "He does a little bit of everything. Tonight he got it going, his outside shot was going. We tried to take away lobs and stuff, so Chris was a little bit open. We'll see what we do in game two."

Spurs forward Tim Duncan added: "They [the Clippers] played harder longer."
