If anyone is ready for the new season, it is Nikola Jokić.
The world's best player will lead the Denver Nuggets in their season opener on Thursday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Ahead of the opening tip-off, the NBA put a special spotlight on the historic records Nikola Jokić could reach or break over the course of the upcoming campaign.
Nikola Jokić is poised to break Russell Westbrook's triple-double record this season. Jokić is just one triple-double away from holding the all-time combined record for regular season and playoff games, and only two triple-doubles shy of becoming just the second player in NBA history with over 200 regular-season triple-doubles.
He also needs just 12 more triple-doubles to break Russell Westbrook's all-time regular-season record.
If he gets off to a strong start, it is very possible he could rewrite the record books well before the end of 2026.
LeBron James stands as the only player in NBA history with more than 20,000 points, 10,000 rebounds, and 7,000 assists. Jokić could soon become the second.
To reach that milestone, Jokić needs 1,991 points, 1,023 rebounds, and 920 assists. Last season, Jokić played in "only" 65 games due to injury, posting 1,799 points, 836 rebounds, and 697 assists.
