NFL changes rule on distance of extra-point kicks
The NFL has changed the rule regarding extra-point kicks following touchdowns, with teams able to score in defence.
The rule alteration enables defensive teams to run any failed kicking attempts to their own endzone, which would earn them two points - when previously the ball was dead once the kick had been ruled good or otherwise.
Among the changes, the extra-point snap will occur from the 15-yard line and the kick taken from the 32-yard mark - moved back from 19 yards - although any two-point conversion attempts will continue to be snapped from the two-yard line.
The moves were made with the intention of making the additional points after touchdowns less predictable - especially given 99.5 per cent of extra-point kicks were successful in the 2014 NFL season.
The rule changes were approved at the NFL owners meetings in San Francisco on Tuesday.
