Mourinho silences Osimhen as Roma grab 91st-minute equaliser against Napoli
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen was unable to help Napoli as Jose Mourinho's AS Roma side grabbed a last-gasp draw on Monday night in the Serie A.
Stephan El-Shaarawy scored a 91st-minute equaliser to give Roma a 1-1 draw after Lorenzo Insigne put the Neapolitans in front from the penalty spot in the 11th minute.
Osimhen was nullified by the Roma defence till he was withdrawn in the 83rd minute by Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti.
Osimhen stopped, Insigne grabs 8th penalty goal
Napoli started the game on the front foot in front of their home fans at the Diego Maradona Stadium in Naples and they gained a quick advantage when the VAR awarded a penalty to Stanislav Lobotka in the ninth minute.
Insigne stepped up to smash the penalty past Rui Patricio in the Roma goal as the Napoli captain grabbed his ninth (9th) league goal of the season, eight (8) of which have been from the penalty spot.
In a tough first half for Osimhen, the Super Eagles striker failed to record any shots on or off target as his only effort was blocked by a compact Roma defence.
Osimhen's struggle continued in the second half as Roma gained a better foothold in the game and marked out the Super Eagles striker who has been selected as the 4th-best player in the league.
Overall, the 23-year-old Nigerian International was able to muster only one (1) shot off target and two (2) blocked shots before he was replaced by Dries Mertens in the 83rd minute.
Osimhen was as combative upfront as ever, winning four (4) of the nine (9) duels he entered, whilst also putting in one (1) tackle and one (1) clearance.
Napoli slip up again in Serie A title chase
El-Shaarawy's 91st-minute equaliser denied Napoli the chance to go level on points with second-placed Inter Milan on 69 points, albeit with a game in hand for the defending champions.
Monday's draw means Napoli are now four (4) points behind league leaders AC Milan who are on 71 points but have played one more game than Inter in second.
Napoli have now dropped points in their last two league games with Monday's loss following last weekend's 3-2 home loss to Fiorentina.
The Spalletti-led side need to avoid defeat or a draw in their next league game away at Empoli on Sunday, April 24 to remain in the chase for their first Serie A title in over 30 years.
