Martin suffered the injury seven minutes into the first quarter of Minnesota's 115-99 win over the New York Knicks on Thursday, though he played on and scored 37 points.
The 31-year-old - in his second season with the Timberwolves - was caught as he attempted to shoot a three-pointer at the Target Center in Minnesota.
Martin was averaging 20.4 points through nine games before his injury.
The news is another blow for the Timberwolves, who are already without point guard Ricky Rubio as the Spaniard nurses a sprained left ankle.
